Alpbach is renowned for its family friendly atmosphere, great skiing (especially for beginners and intermediates) and laid-back understated Austrian charm. It’s often referred to as one of its country’s prettiest villages, so it’s crammed with traditional alpine chalets and loads of atmosphere. The accommodation here is very family-centric too. There are a couple of properties with kids clubs, but plenty of others with multi-room suites, family rooms with bunk beds or even spacious apartments with fully equipped kitchens for those who prefer to self-cater. For superb family facilities
- The Galtenberg Resort offers unbeatable family-friendly facilities; it’s a property that is fully focussed on both entertainment for all ages and wellness. There’s a full programme of activities for little ones aged 3-10, special zones for teenagers with more age-appropriate entertainment (think ping pong, karaoke and table football competitions) and a fabulous spa with both adults-only and family-friendly areas. Rooms and suites are contemporary in style, and all can accommodate up to four or five family members. There are ski slopes right beside the hotel, and lessons can be booked at special rates.
- Der Boglerhof is a five-star property that is ideal for families. Here you’ll find a lovely playroom and nanny for little ones, and a chill-out lounge for the teens. For those who want to take things easy, there’s a special Family Spa with indoor/outdoor pool, sauna and much more. Family suites have two separate bedrooms and the food is gourmet.
For the spa
- Der Alpbacherhof is a family run property that prides itself on its welcoming hospitality. There are spacious rooms and suites with bunk beds for the kids, and special children’s menus for less-sophisticated palates. But it’s also known for its stand-out spa. There’s a serene adults only space with several saunas, whirlpool tubs and a pool; but the kids can join in too with bespoke beauty treatments for little ones. The location is very central and you’re just 100m from the ski bus stop.
For Self Catering
- Alpbach Lodge is a modern chalet-style property which has been converted into five sleek apartments, the largest of which can accommodate up to six guests. Interiors embody contemporary mountain chic and each unit comes with a fully equipped kitchen and furnished balcony. 10 mins walk from the centre of town and 1km from the lifts.
- Aparthotel Hummerau provides all the independence of self catering accommodation, alongside hotel-style facilities which include a daily buffet breakfast, plus an outdoor hot tub and sauna area. The largest apartments are spread over two floors and can easily accommodate up to six guests. And the best bit? You’re right next to the lifts to Schatzberg and Wiedersbergerhorn.
For a B&B
- Families looking for good value B&B accommodation will love Gastehaus Larch. It’s well located, just 10 minutes walk from the village centre, and offers a quiet haven with a warm welcome. Spacious family apartments can sleep between two and eight, which makes them ideal for larger groups or two families.
